About Sump Coffee
Scott Carey was a lawyer in New York when his brother Jeff was diagnosed with cancer. He moved to St. Louis to be near him, and after Jeff passed away, Carey channeled his grief into building Sump Coffee, opening December 1, 2011. Starting as a multi-roaster cafe, he began roasting his own beans in 2012 after practicing on over 60 kilograms of green coffee. Sump became one of the first purveyors of third-wave coffee in St. Louis.
