About Intelligentsia Coffee
Founded on October 9, 1995 in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood by Doug Zell and Emily Mange, who moved from San Francisco and couldn't find great coffee in their new city. They began roasting in-store with a Probat L12 and pioneered the Direct Trade sourcing model. Acquired by Peet's Coffee (JAB Holding) in 2015.
Sourcing & Philosophy
Intelligentsia pioneered Direct Trade, partnering with over 50 farming partners in 14 countries. Their buyers travel year-round to source and cup over 50 single-origins and blends annually.
