About Detour Coffee Roasters
Founded in 2009 in a back alleyway in Dundas, Ontario by Kaelin McCowan, a former camera operator in the film industry. After an eye-opening trip to Australia, he traveled to Seattle, bought a roaster, and drove it back to Hamilton in a rented truck. Detour was at the forefront of the Canadian specialty coffee movement, building relationships with farmers when most Canadians only knew Tim Hortons.
Sourcing & Philosophy
Direct relationships with coffee farmers. Focused on traceability and quality. Detour now has four cafe locations and a sister cafe, Dark Horse Espresso Bar, with eight locations.
