About Dark Horse Coffee Roasters
Founded in 2013 in San Diego's Normal Heights neighborhood by brothers Daniel and Bryan Charlson, originally from Hawaii. They brought their island culture into a rapidly growing craft coffee business. Dark Horse quickly became a key player in San Diego's coffee scene, expanding to multiple locations including Truckee, North Park, and Golden Hill. The roastery relocated to 3330 Adams Avenue in 2024 with a Loring S35 Kestrel roaster.
Sourcing & Philosophy
Direct trade relationships with smallholder farmers across Latin America and Africa. All coffee roasted in-house in small batches.
